“Ancient moon priestesses were called virgins. ‘Virgin’ meant not married, not belong to a man-a woman who was ‘one-in-herself.’ The very word derives from a Latin root meaning strength, force, skill; and was later applied to men: virle. Ishtar, Diana, Astarte, Isis were all all called virgin, which did not refer to sexual chasity, but sexual independence. And all great culture heroes of the past,
mythic or historic, were said to be born of virgin mothers: Marduk, Gilgamesh, Buddha, Osiris, Dionysus, Genghis Khan, Jesus-they were all affirmed as sons of the Great Mother, of the Original One, their worldly power deriving from her. When the Hebrews used the word, and in the original Aramatic, it meant ‘maiden’ or ‘young woman’, with no connotations to sexual chasity. But later Christian translators could not conceive of the ‘Virgin Mary’ as a woman of independent sexuality, needless to say; they distorted the meaning into sexually pure, chaste, never touched. When Joan of Arc, with her witch coven associations, was called La Pucelle-‘the Maiden,’ ‘the Virgin’ - the word retained some of its original pagan sense of a strong and independent woman. The Moon Goddess was worshipped in orgiastic rites, being the divinity of matriarchal women free to take as many lovers as they choose. Women could ‘surrender’ themselves to the Goddess by making love to a stranger in her timple.” - Monica Sjoo and Barbara Mor in the book “The Great Cosmic Mother -Rediscovering the Religion of the Earth”

PETWO MAMBO:
*The Petwo Mambo represents fire of water and presides over the magical sexual elixcirs and walks the hot points od emotions and passion. Her red serpent is the Kundalini serpent of Tantric Yoga. The Fire Snake drinks the erotic moistures of the Priestess. The river flows with blood. Kundalini Rises.
*This sort of Priestess is threatening to most people, which is why in turn inspires her to defiance and anger.
*It takes extraordinary strength and magical ability to handle the snake and exchange the fire breath with him. From “The New Orleans Voodoo Tarot”

“Durga, the warrior goddess, rides on a lion and carries damaru, a small double-headed, hourglass-shaped drum used in meditation practices…Lions are associated with the goddess in many cultures…All of these lion goddesses are associated with the drum that leads the initiate into the labyrinth of the mind in search of expanded states of awareness. At the threshold of the descent stand the great feline guardians.” When the Drummer’s Were Women” by: Layne Redmond

UNEDITED, RAW, UNREHEARSED Footage from my “Sensual Strength Training” DVD shoot in 2009. The DVD never came out due to damaged footage but another version is in the works.

CLASSIC THROWBACKS….

Throwbacks from Way back.

This is a video of me performing in a small town in Costa Rica. I was in Costa Rica to teach my “Sensual Strength Training” Class but the school where I was teaching had a recital for the chilren and families and they asked me to do something to inspire the young dancers. San Isidro is in the South of Costa Rica and not much comes there. So there is an unrehearsed freestyle of Haitian Rara. The music is by Neg Mawon and Yatande out of NYC. I am doing a mixture of Haitian Rara moves with a little Haitian Ibo and my own twist. This is not the best example of my dancing but I keep being told to put more footage of me dancing so here goes…(smile)
